TOM's Health is a tool for researchers to study the menstrual cycle at a large scale. Regardless on whether the study of the menstrual cycle is of central interest, understanding the impact of hormonal fluctuations in overall health can make clinical findings more meaningful and replicable.
The literature surrounding the menstrual cycle is limited and not focused on younger women. Female teenagers are at higher risk of developing affective disorders compared to their male counterparts. Anecdotally, it is known that hormones play a major impact in this; however, this is not often considered in the diagnoses and treatment.
Current period-tracking apps require subscriptions for detailed insight. TOM aims to be as accessible as possible and will be free of charge.
